“50 Amerikanische Künstler” – Translation Norma Keßler
Debra N. Mancoff's book on 50 American artists has been published by the Prestel Verlag. It takes the reader on a fascinating tour through 300 years of art history in America. Fifty artist's biographies provide a striking and informative insight into how American art cut its ties with Europe and developed its own identity as art “Made in the USA”.
Interpreting for European Works Councils (EWCs)
European works councils can have up to 30 members from the 27 EU Member States. The delegates speak a wide range of different languages, from English, French and Spanish to Polish, Czech and Hungarian. As a rule they meet several times a year. Simultaneous interpreters are present at the meetings to ensure that the participants can communicate with one another. Related documents such as agreements and minutes are also translated from one language to another.

2009 Christmas card
Lumière de la nuit is the name of the 2009 Christmas card, published as
part of a series of cards by Aschaffenburg artists by Wieser & Keßler.
We can perceive a candle in the motif of last year, and in this picture,
the artist, Matthias Sellmer, has focused on the theme of Christmas celebration. The dark of the night is illuminated by this festive occasion.
Frankfurt Book Fair 2009
From October 14 to 18, 2009 the world’s biggest book fair again opened its doors. At the Translators’ Centre, Norma Keßler, technical translator for architecture and design, and her colleague, Babette Schrooten, technical translator for medicine and equestrian sport, talked about the importance of specialisation, its opportunities and risks and about ways of becoming specialised.

International Conference “Interpreting the Future”
From September 11 to 13, 2009 the international conference “Interpreting the Future” took place in Berlin. 1,600 participants from 42 countries met at the Free University in Berlin to discuss the future of the profession and the challenges arising from globalisation.
One and one makes more than two
For BDÜ info NRW Martina Wieser and Norma Keßler report on their successful collaboration in a partnership, how they progressed from individual market contestants to partners and the synergy gained from combining their skills, experience and knowledge.

Relaunch of Wieser & Keßler GbR website
In June 2009, the new website of Wieser & Keßler went online. It was designed by idealduplex and contains a lot of new information.
Norma Keßler – Member of the Board of the BDÜ
On March 21, 2009 the annual general meeting of the Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators (BDÜ) elected Norma Keßler to the office of Board Member. In this capacity she will be responsible for public relations.

Article on translators of non-fiction in the trade journal MDÜ 5/08
In her article, Norma Keßler describes her work as translator of
non-fiction books in the fields of architecture, art and design.
The MDÜ is the members’ journal of the BDÜ, the German Association of Translators and Interpreters. It is published every
two months and read by some 5,500 members, among other subscribers.

Christmas Cards 2008
A Christmas card from the series Aschaffenburger Künstlerkarten designed for Wieser & Keßler was issued for the fourth time in 2008. This latest card in the series is something special. Because of personal contacts to the artist, Matthias Sellmer, Martina Wieser and Norma Keßler had the chance to select a suitable theme for the Christmas card from the artist’s works.
Photography exhibition "Interpreters at the Nuremberg war trials" at the Regional Court of Aschaffenburg
On October 30, 2008 the photography exhibition of the Bavarian branch of the BDÜ, the German Association of Interpreters and Translators, was opened. It was organised by the BDÜ's regional group of which Norma Keßler and Martina Wieser are active members. The exhibition featuring impressive photos by Ray d’Addario was very well received by the public.

"60 Years of Israel" – Symposium in Frankfurt
on June 7, 2008
Martina Wieser organised the simultaneous translation at the symposium "60 Years of Israel" hosted by the Haus am Dom in Frankfurt. She translated presentations, panel discussions and interviews simultaneously into English.

Membership in professional associations is gaining in importance
The Association of Interpreters and Translators (BDÜ) is the largest professional association of its kind in Germany. It stands for highest professionalism and quality. Martina Wieser is a full member of the Association of Conference Interpreters within the BDÜ (VKD) and Norma Keßler is deputy chair of the BDÜ’s Bavarian regional association.
